Status quo and future outlook
Automation and new technologies in maintenance and serviceAt the start of the event, the focus was on the central challenges of process automation. Our experts – Laurin Kraus in Zurich, Jan Böshans in Gelsenkirchen and Uwe Ofner in Vienna – led through an exciting series of presentations that highlighted current solution approaches and implementation standards in the area of maintenance and service. The event concluded with an outlook on innovations that can increase efficiency in the short and medium term and create decisive competitive advantages. Particular emphasis was placed on the topics of collaboration, sustainability and intelligent technologies such as AI and IoT, which could revolutionize the future of the industry.

Exciting real-life insights
Successful implementations of SAP Service and Asset Manager and Co.In Zurich, participants were able to gain insights into two exciting customer projects with successful implementations. Philipp Ulrich, SAP Consultant at Novo Business Consulting, reported on how the SAP Service and Asset Manager ensures sustainable efficiency benefits in EWZ maintenance, what challenges were associated with the implementation and how these were overcome through sucessful collaboration. Peter Moos, Head of Operational Asset Management at Axpo Grid AG, together with Christopher Grippekoven, Consultant at Evora IT Solutions, provided insights into the implementation of digital maintenance with S/4HANA, Fiori Apps and the SAP Asset Manager. This was followed by a demo which gave participants direct insights into the mobile application.
The Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen set the stage for another customer presentation, where Thomas Fischer, Project Manager at Netze Duisburg, showcased an IS-U project alongside Moritz Hedtstück, Consultant at Evora IT Solutions. Their presentation focused on various aspects, including meter changes, scheduling, rebooking, and streamlined warehouse management using the SAP Asset Manager. Participants gained valuable insights into the Evo-Suite, exploring its process phases and applications implemented in the Netze Duisburg project.

In Vienna, the Lenzing AG customer presentation showed how the Smart Maintenance modules enable significant efficiency benefits in maintenance. Sascha Pauss, Global Reliability Engineer, not only provided insights into the highlights of SAP Multi Resource Scheduling and the SAP Service and Asset Manager, but, together with Uwe Ofner, also presented a demo which offered a glimpse into future developments, such as indoor navigation using augmented reality and visual checklist processing.
Third-Party Workforce
Future-proof integration of external companies into service processesMany customer projects have demonstrated that while internal technicians are often well-positioned to leverage the benefits of digitalization in maintenance, the integration of external service providers and technicians still presents significant challenges. A lack of SAP connectivity, along with insufficient devices and licensing, frequently hinders this progress. However, incorporating external companies into the service process can be a critical success factor for businesses aiming to future-proof and enhance their efficiency.
Laurin Kraus, Michael Berkowsky, Uwe Wilhelm, and Matthias Mistelbauer explored various options for integrating external companies and provided an overview of the current technology landscape. Attendees gained valuable insights into SAP solutions like FSM Crowd and the Business Network for Asset Collaboration, along with Evora’s “Contractor Cockpit,” built on SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP).

Exciting updates from SAP were a highlight at every location. The outstanding technical presentations by Frederike Mundt, Oliver Schlageter, Dirk Kempf and Stefan Glück provided valuable insights into SAP’s current Field Service Management solution and the future direction of the SAP portfolio. The speakers also explored the emerging roles of SAP Business AI and the AI assistant Joule, shedding light on their impact on the future of maintenance.

The partner presentation by Hubert Kögl, Project Management & Sustainable SCM Expert at myssion consulting, focused on the importance of maintenance for sustainable supply chains. Various aspects were covered, ranging from ESG reporting to the derivation and implementation of measures and processes.
