Frequently Asked Questions

SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM) is SAP’s modern mobile app for asset and field service management. It’s designed for maintenance technicians, field engineers and inventory or safety roles who need reliable online/offline access to SAP work orders, notifications and asset data.

SSAM is the strategic successor with a more modern user experience, SAP BTP‑based extensibility and deeper S/4HANA integration. It supports multiple personas, new Fiori UI patterns and improved offline capabilities, while Work Manager is a mature but legacy solution that many customers are now replacing.

SSAM can connect to SAP S/4HANA and SAP ERP (ECC) systems, typically via SAP BTP and OData services. It works closely with SAP EAM/PM and can also integrate with Customer Service or S/4HANA Service scenarios.

Relevant data is synchronized to the device before the user goes into the field. Technicians can then view orders, capture time, materials, measurements and photos offline. Once connectivity returns, the app uploads the changes and resolves any conflicts according to configured rules.

Timelines vary, but many customers reach a productive pilot in a few months. This includes design, configuration, integrations, security setup, pilot roll‑out and initial training. Larger, multi‑site deployments are then phased over additional waves.
